The Independent School Entrance Exam, or ISEE, is an admission test that many independent schools require of applicants. The ISEE can be administered between the grades of 4 and 12, with three different levels being used to test students in different grades. A tutor can help students learn about the subjects and types of questions featured on this test to improve their scores and their independent school applications.
Another test which may be required for entrance into an independent school is the Secondary School Admission Test, or SSAT. This exam is administered specifically for entrance into junior high and high schools, with two different levels of the exam available. Students must complete mathematic, verbal, reading comprehension, and essay sections, and a tutor can help improve a student’s ability to complete each of these sections.
Students applying for college may have to complete the Scholastic Aptitude Test, or the SAT. This exam is designed to measure a student’s ability to read critically, perform mathematic equations, and write. The SAT has a very particular scoring method, so it is important for students to receive instruction beforehand to do well on this exam.
The American College Testing exam, or the ACT, has a different scoring method than the SAT and includes a section on science reasoning. Students can benefit from learning the specific test-taking skills necessary to succeed on the ACT.

If you are a student who is preparing to meet with a tutor, you may be wondering what questions you should ask. Posing questions to your tutor can help you improve your academic skills and make the most of your private tutoring sessions. Take a look at the questions below that you can ask your tutor to receive help in the areas where you need it most.
What Does This Mean?
One of the most important questions that you can ask your tutor is to rephrase or explain a concept that you do not understand. Your tutor is prepared to help you, so do not pretend to understand a concept when you do not. Instead, be upfront when you are confused and ask for further explanation until you do understand the concept.
Am I Studying Correctly?
Being able to study well is one of the most important skills that a student can have. Go over your current study habits with your tutor to identify if you are making the most of your study time. Your tutor should be able to offer insight and advice to help you improve your study skills.
How Can I Improve On This Task?
There may be a concept, problem, or task that you do understand, but feel that you are not doing your best on. Your tutor can help identify where you are having trouble and provide information and advice to help you improve.
What Are the Real-Life Applications of This Subject?
Many students find it difficult to imagine when they will actually use a particular skill after they have graduated from school. If you feel this way about a subject or skill, your tutor can help explain how it will come in handy outside of school, allowing you to better appreciate the importance of that subject or skill.
The tutors at Chyten South Bay are prepared to answer all of these questions, plus any others that you may have about academic subjects and skills.
